martine and justin james:

dear marya, i am so sad to hear of dr. michael's passing. we were neighbors for a while, and he took such good care of my son from 1993-when justin was 4, until 2006.
he was an awesome doctor- he had a great way of connecting to the kids- and a wonderful, sweet man. i was grateful he took us on.
i am so very sorry. may God bless and comfort you at this difficult time.

I just found this when looking for a contact to transfer my son's old medical records, and I find myself in tears.

Dr. Eustis was my family pediatrician until we moved to Seattle. He helped me with practical funny compassionate advice when my first child was born with a cleft palate, and when my second child was born C-section he came back to see her in the hospital the next day and told me quickly "Don't worry -- she's fine. I just wanted to hold her for a minute." I always guessed maybe he was having a rough day that day.

It sounds like he died a year after we left town, and I hope by posting this now I don't tear open any old wounds, but I had to tell you that I've continued to speak with appreciation for his care all these years. For me, he was always the metric against which I measured a new pediatrician.

Jane Williams:

Dear, dear Marya,
I felt so sad for you and your family when I heard of your husband's passing. You and your kids have been in my prayers and thoughts frequently throughout the days since he died. Please know that my heart is with you and may the pain eventually lessen some for you.

Take care, Marya
Jane (used-to-be-nights on 8 med)

Sallie Earle:

I never met you, but, Michael spoke of you. He was such a tender heart. I cannot believe he is gone.
